Nidastore

A real pride of the territory of Arcevia, the ancient Rocca Contrada, are the nine castles, walled villages of three-fifteenth century, largely preserved. These are rural villages, with houses surrounded and protected by mighty fortified walls, from which you can enjoy wonderful views.

...

The “nest of the goshawks”, hawks used for hunting in the Middle Ages, is the northernmost castle of Arcevia, on the border with the province of Pesaro. Nidastore rose in the mid-twelfth century and was long contended between the bishop of Fossombrone and Rocca Contrada. In 1408 the castle was granted to the nephew of the bishop, Raniero di Taddeo dei Ranieri di Pesaro, who was later killed. Related to this story is the legend that the Rainiero was killed by the inhabitants of Nidastore following his claim to exercise the jus primae noctis on their wives. In 1462 Pius II finally recognized the castle in Rocca Contrada.

The houses that we can see today date back to 1400 when Rocca Contrada rebuilt the castle. It is wonderful to point out some buildings belonging to the 15th-16th centuries, which are still very well preserved and which are settled directly on the walls of the city.
